This role offers the opportunity to build practical experience in a highly regulated technical environment, working closely with experienced licensing, radiation protection and waste management professionals.

The opportunity

We are looking for a junior or early-career Licensing Officer Assistant to join our Licensing team within the Decommissioning & Waste Management Programme in the Province of Varese. In this role, you will support the preparation, organization and review of licensing documentation for facilities in operation and decommissioning, under the supervision of senior staff.

You will work closely with licensing, radiation protection, decommissioning and waste management professionals, contributing to technical files, periodic reports, safety documentation, clearance dossiers and environmental licensing processes. The role is suitable for candidates with a solid engineering background who are motivated to develop experience in licensing, regulatory compliance and safety documentation.

How you will make an impact

Your work will support the Licensing team and the wider Decommissioning & Waste Management Programme, helping ensure that technical documentation is complete, traceable and aligned with project, client and regulatory requirements.

· Licensing documentation: Support the preparation of licensing files, periodic reports, technical notes and supporting annexes for facilities within the programme.

· Technical inputs and coordination: Collect, organize and verify technical information required for licensing and safety documentation, working with multidisciplinary specialists.

· Regulatory and safety support: Assist senior colleagues in preparing clearance dossiers, responses to competent authorities and inputs for safety analyses.

· Environmental licensing: Contribute to environmental permitting and EIA-related activities for decommissioning and interim waste storage projects.

· Document control and project follow-up: Maintain licensing records, support document reviews, track review and approval timelines, and prepare summaries, meeting notes and internal technical briefs.

What you will bring to the role

We focus on the essential qualifications, skills and experience needed for success, while welcoming different technical backgrounds and career paths.

· MSc in Nuclear Engineering is preferred; other engineering backgrounds may be considered where there is relevant exposure to the nuclear field, even if limited.

· Junior or early-career profile, typically 0–3 years of experience, or up to around 5–6 years where the experience is relevant to licensing, safety, environmental or nuclear fields.

· Basic knowledge, ideally acquired through university education, of licensing and regulatory frameworks applicable to nuclear, decommissioning or waste management facilities.

· Understanding of safety principles, environmental permitting processes and technical documentation workflows for complex industrial facilities.

· Italian and English at B2 level or above are required.

· Methodical working style, strong attention to detail, good analytical skills, clear written communication and willingness to learn within a multidisciplinary team.

Compensation and benefits

WSP is committed to pay transparency. The annual gross salary range for this position is €27,000 - €30,000. The final offer will be determined based on the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications and relevant expertise.
