WSP Ankara office is currently seeking a Junior Social Specialist to join our Sustainability Services team on a full-time contract basis based in Ankara (Turkey). The successful candidate will join our multi-discipline and cross-international team supporting in the development of projects in different sectors.
In this role, you will primarily support the senior team members in project delivery, contributing to social-related tasks and assisting in sustainability initiatives across various sectors. This position is designed for professionals looking to build expertise in a collaborative environment, growing their skills and knowledge within a supportive team and focusing on contributing to projects.
THE ROLE:
You will support social‑related tasks within Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), including assisting with social baseline studies, field surveys, stakeholder engagement activities, and data collection under senior supervision.
You will assist in social components of Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) and post‑finance monitoring activities, including supporting the identification of social risks and impacts, compliance reviews, and reporting tasks.
You will attend project‑related, working, and organizational meetings as required and support project managers and senior team members in the coordination of social activities.
You will support senior staff in coordinating subcontractors and questionnaire teams, including assistance during fieldwork and survey implementation.
You will contribute to the preparation and development of technical reports by compiling data, drafting initial sections, and supporting internal reviews under guidance.
REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Anthropology, or a related social science discipline (recent graduates are encouraged to apply).
Previous experience in surveys, SPSS and social impact assessment, stakeholder engagement, and environmental and social studies within infrastructure or project finance contexts will be considered.
Academic coursework, internships, thesis work, or fieldwork related to ESIAs, ESDDs, social surveys, stakeholder engagement, or social research will be considered an advantage.
Basic knowledge of national and international social standards, such as IFC Performance Standards, EBRD Performance Requirements, the Equator Principles, or similar frameworks, is an asset.
Interest in or exposure to Livelihood Restoration Plans (LRP) and Resettlement Action Plans (RAP) through academic or practical work is a plus.
Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
Strong willingness to develop technical writing, analysis, and reporting skills under guidance.
Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
Good communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); familiarity with data analysis or statistical tools (e.g. SPSS) as well as AI tools.
Willingness and availability to travel and participate in fieldwork when required.
Motivation to support multiple project tasks and learn to work across different assignments simultaneously.
Valid Class B driving license.
Strong interest in social assessment tools, field-based data collection, and applied social research.
